A sharp, blue-toned breakup song about emotional misalignment - the moment when love is still being named, but the ground it was supposed to provide has already disappeared.

Stuck is a song about the painful realization that two people can use the same word - love - and mean completely different things by it. It is not really about someone lying, or not trying hard enough. The hurt comes from something more complicated: believing that the other person means what they say, while also feeling that the kind of love being offered does not actually meet you where you are.

The song was written near the end of my first long-term relationship, and it still carries that younger, emotionally loaded perspective. There is accusation in it, but also doubt, disappointment, and the first traces of self-reflection. It is the sound of realizing that what mattered most to me seemed to never even touch the other person - and that somewhere in the way we loved, I stopped feeling seen.

In this new version, the arrangement has become sharper and more precise. The string quartet, piano, finger snaps, drums, and sudden stops make the song feel less like warm nostalgia and more like a suspended emotional space: a cold blue room, a fractured floor, a step forward with no ground underneath. That image fits the song better now. It is about the vacuum left behind when something that used to carry you is suddenly gone.

The chorus still has the blunt force of the original: “You say you love me / And I believe that’s what you think / But I’m afraid / You don’t know what love is.” What makes the line hurt is not that it paints the other person as cruel. It admits something much sadder: sincerity is not always enough. Sometimes two people are standing inside different meanings of the same word, and by the time you understand that, you are already stuck in the empty space between them.

Lyrics

Stuck

[Verse 1]
You say you love me still but
You don't know what love is
You say you'll never stop but
What you mean is don't leave me
[drum and strings enter]
Things that matter to me the most
They seem to never even touch you
Look at all the things you wanted
Like they could ever fill you up

[Chorus]
You say you love me
And I believe that's what you think
But I'm afraid
You don't know what love is
(You don't know what love is)
(You don't know what love is)

[Verse 2]
Now there's no point in placing the blame
I believe you do all that you can
But somewhere in the way we loved
I stopped feeling seen

[Chorus]
You say you love me
And I believe that's what you think
But I'm afraid
You don't know what love is
(You don't know what love is)
(You don't know what love is)

[Bridge]
You said you loved me
I guess I never believed it was true
You said you'd never leave
Now I'm stuck
I'm stuck here
Stuck here without you

[Outro]
(Stuck here without you)
(I'm stuck here)
(I'm stuck here)
